What a great New Year’s Eve dinner! Scallops, crab legs, etc. mmmmm. But now the house has some sort of residual odor from it. I’m boiling apples and cinnamon on the stove, but is there a great remedy that I’m not aware of? ---

Go to the health food store or pet store and pick up some zeolite. This is a natural mineral that will take the smell of anything out of anything. ---

Ozium. Found in auto supply stores. A spray or two will get rid of any lingering fish odors. I know from experience. ---

White vinegar. Works great for removing odours. You can even buy it in spray bottles for household use (of the kind kitchen cleaner comes in, not like air freshener cans). ---

Thanks, and I may try the others, but no Febreeze. Since it basically covers up one smell for another, and since my wife HATES the smell of Febreeze, that one’s out. (Say, this suddenly reminds me of a question of mine that the master answered in the original 1984 book version of the _Straight Dope_, in which he discusses ways of “eliminating” odors.) ---

Look for spots in the kitchen that may have been missed in cleanup that might still have food particles on them, like under the hood or on the ceiling fan. ---

Pot smokers have known about the power of Ozium for decades. It has a slight lemon scent and will not just cover but seems to eliminate odors. It is the Fabreze of the '80s. Or so I am told, or remember, or something.
