As much fun as Saturday’s gettogether was, I worry that we are scaring off the quieter ChiDopers who are looking for something a little less “drunken orgy.” Anybody up for a dinner and drinks someplace where we can talk and get to know each other, or is that what the SDMB is for and parties are to be PAR-TAYZ? Any thoughts? ---

I always show for ChiDopes when I’m in the country, be they rowdy, quiet or middlin’. You just set something up, drop, and you know I’ll be there. For the record, I think the Babaluci ChiDopes were fairly low-key. As these things go, anyway. 🙂 ---

Does you boss pay you for those plugs? 😉 I’m thinking someplace quieter. I don’t hear well in noisy environments and if we could have a room to ourselves, so to speak. The conference room in October was nice. ---

We did a dinner at Leona’s a few months ago, if I remember right when thinksnow was in town. We had a room to ourselves. It didn’t prevent loud porn talk, but it was a nice relaxing evening. And the Baba Luci gatherings were pretty low key and relaxed. ---

I’m thinking about a Pot Luck at my house before the weather gets too cold to enjoy the porches…does that sound good to anyone? Maybe late September/early October - I’ll make lasagna, everyone bring a dish or a bottle of wine or some beer, we’ll rent movies, smokers can bask on the porch, and make a relaxing afternoon of it. ---

I personally don’t mind the loud porn talk, when I can hear it and understand it and put it in context (as in “who is being talked about, what is to be done with him/her, and can I watch?”). But **Dyno** accused me of looking “disapproving” Saturday when I was scowling trying to listen to what was going on. I’m shy enough IRL without being deaf on top of it. ---

magdalene once again reads my mind. I was thinking of the same sorta thing for some MI Dopers sometime. Unfortunately, we’re not all in one town, but a casual friendly dinner would hopefully be worth the drive. At any rate, I think it’s a good idea. Going out and hitting the town in a rowdy way is fun, but there’s also a place for some good conversation and some down-home atmosphere. ---
