The Edmonton Oilers are currently 14 consecutive wins this season—a Canadian record! I believe the overall NHL record is 17. Can they do it? Fingers crossed! ---

Now 15 games. Five points out of second place in the west, with four games in hand on the top two teams. 12 games into the season, some fans were selling their seasons tickets because they thought the Oilers were done and couldn’t make the playoffs… ---

And Game 6 is on Edmonton on Friday. That should (fingers crossed) give them a boost, to be on home ice, among their fans. And their fans are serious. I well remember living in Edmonton in 2006, and it was all-Oilers-all-the-time in the city during the playoffs. Nice to see such a fanbase. As a Leafs fan (yeah, I know), it pains me to say it, but … Go Oilers! ---

Well that was a heck of a playoff season. Panthers win the first three games, Oilers win the next three (including one game 8-1), and it came down to a 2-1 victory for Florida last night. Great season, McDavid and the boys! Congrats also on winning the Conn Smythe trophy. ---

Well, if nothing else, that was a damn good final game. Sad to see Edmonton lose, but at least the game was enjoyable. A house up the street has a flagpole in the front yard. Since the final series began, it’s been flying an Oilers flag. Today, the flag has been lowered to half-mast. ---

I thought the Oilers were in deep trouble down three goals at the end of the first period in a must-win Game Four in Florida. Holy frijole! What a bunch of scrappers to pull off the overtime win! I’d called Oilers in 7 games with my buddies, but now it’s easier to believe. Phew! ---

If the Oilers win it’ll be the most hard-fought and well-deserved trophy. Nothing about this opponent (Panthers) is remotely easy. Alas, the Oilers were just one overtime goal (in Game Two) away from taking a 3-1 series lead. ---

The Oilers played some excellent games. But the panthers came out hard every game and particularly every first period. The oilers deserve credit but Florida deservesd the Stanley this year. Not wanting to fatten up on beer and wings. I took to watching the games while exercising at the gym. I wanted Edmonton to win, but they did better whenever I was not watching. There’s always next year. ---

This was a tough loss, but the Panthers played better hockey, both offensively and defensively. We couldn’t really get past that. Bobrovsky spelled stellarly, no question. I was hoping for at least a game seven though.
