My first twenty or so tries didn’t take. I was listening to an Incredible String Band album at the time and chose one of the song names out of desperation. I do love the ISB, but they are an acquired taste.
I picked Warble because I needed a name quickly - and since I sing, it just popped in my head. I wonder if I can change it to Runs With Scissors?
Mines based on a computer game character that… yep, you guessed it, likes to tell jokes and insult people.

A more suitable name there never was.
Senior year of high school, some friends and I were at a McDonald’s (off Union Square in New York, if you’re curious) after school. As we got up to leave, we noticed an address book/organizer underneath our table. The only thing inside that identified the owner was a HIP card belonging to Varlos Z. Brathwaite. I thought that was the coolest name ever, so I kept it for pseudonymonous purposes in exchange for my return of the organizer.
I still dig the name (and use it for everything I do online), even though half the people on the SDMB refer to me as Varloz, which irritates me to no end.
Assuming it’s not taken and you sign up for membership, just email TubaDiva and you should be able to get it.
All you have to do is ask my daughter Dragonblink.
Mine comes from Bill Engvall’s standup routine. If you’ve never heard it, I highly recommend it!
I picked mine because my ex used to read these boards and his almost last words to me were that this was what he would miss the most.
Great name. Equal in all respects to that of an Army friend of mine, H. McCoy Van Devender.
When I signed up, like everyone else, I needed a username in a hurry. So I chose one (morkfromork). I had no idea I’d actually end up sticking around. I figured if I was going to be a part of it all, I was going to need a better name.
So I thought and thought and thought for a total of about 30 seconds…but nuthin’. Then this just popped into my head like it was meant to be. Where it came from I do not know. Where it went I shall not ask.
Doesn’t really tell ya much, does it?
D.E.S.K.
David (me)
Emily (youngest daughter)
Sarah (oldest daughter)
Kristy (wife)
The Top is because I thought D.E.S.K. looked too short by itself and the 668 comes frome the first place I used it; apparently there’s 667 others out there. It was originally supposed to be a “family” e-mail address but I got attached to it and now most people on-line, even those who know my real name, refer to me as DESK
Peace - DESK
An old friend once told me I was a “good egg”, meaning I was one of the nice people. Its as simple as that.
Plus, I love a good fried egg sandwich.
Since this is the place where people are smart, I wanted something to reflect that I too, am smart, but still a hick in many ways.
Plus, the southern way of saying affirmations like NO DOUBT! and I SHIT YOU NOT! is truly a musical thing.
Knowed Out - I never realize your name was a variation on “no doubt”. Ahhhhhhhh! I am filled with glee at this discovery.
AwSnappityp is a phrase my friend used to say when it was popular to say “Aw, snap!” a couple years ago. AwSnappity is a variation, and [at least in our bizarre little world] you’re supposed to say it when you’ve done something stupid, like run a red light. You say it in a goofy voice and make yourself feel better.
My old SN, FireUnderpantsBoobs, was a pseudonym made up by a 5-year-old after deciding he didn’t like the name “Bradley” anymore.
My SN was inspired by the Godfather novel and movies. I spell “Consigliori” the same way Mario Puzo did in the novel, although there are several different ways it can be spelled.
I didn’t know that it was ever popular to say “Aw, snap!” In fact, I’ve never heard the phrase before in my life. But your name is absolutely on of my very faves. I think it looks neat, plus it’s really fun to say.
’
I just used my real name , seemed more appropriate to the way the board is run.
Declan
Awww, thanks. I was in high school when “Aw, snap!” was popular, so that might explain why you’ve never heard it.
My username comes from a formula that is allegedly used by George Lucas to create his characters’ appellations. It’s complex but here’s how it works:
1st 3 letters are first three of your last name
2nd 2 letters are first two of your first name
3rd 2 letters are first two of your mom’s maiden name
4th 3 letters are last three of your last name
Mine just happened to come out pronounceable.
Davmi
Oh sure, make me come in here and explain it …
When I was a younger Blink, I belonged to a group of five (or so) friends who hung out fairly frequently. At some point I started referring to us as The Infamous Five. Thusly, lo these many years later, when my mother posted comments on my LiveJournal, she would sign them “the Infamous Mom”. It pretty well stuck, and that’s her username all over half the internet now.
Of course, the backstory is kinda moot, given that she’s a mom and she’s infamous. Infmom for short.
