This is the third time one of you knobs has responded to a complaint that Sanders didn’t get enough support from Democrats by pointing out that Sanders didn’t get enough support from Democrats, and I gotta tell you, it gets funnier every fucking time.

I mean, how many times do you claim that Clinton was a terrible candidate because she didn’t win the general?

I don’t understand what it is that you want. We have primaries for a reason, to see who the Democrats support. If the candidate that _you_ want doesn’t win the primary, what are we supposed to do? Just stop having primaries and just have _you_ pick the nominee from now on?

But you are correct, Sanders didn’t get much support from Democratic voters. Why do you think that makes him a better candidate than the one who _did_ get support from Democratic voters?

Or are you just competing with @Banquet_Bear and trying to take the title of the stupidest utterances ever?

You guys are really blind if you think that mainstream democratic candidates are good but not perfect candidates, but we’re being really picky and demanding a unicorn. That’s not at all what’s going on here. You tell yourself this as a sort of stockholm syndrome to reconcile your blind tribal loyalty to a party that is not, except by comparison to pure evil, the good guys.

The vast majority of American democrats are not on the correct side of the political spectrum at all. They do not have serving the American people as their top priority. They serve the interests of the rich and powerful before anyone else, and they do so so unfailingly that you’ve just sort of accepted that this is the norm and changed your expectations. In any other rich country in the world, the democrats would be the right wing bad guys that must be defeated at all costs, like the republicans are in ours.

Now I understand that there’s a pragmatic case to be made that the nature of our governmental structure forces you into this position. I would say that both parties have exploited the nature of our government to force us into this position, so that no matter what happens, we lose. This is part of how our democracy is managed - we don’t really have a real choice for positive change. But to try to insist that right wing democrats, who are the bad guys in any other country where you’d ever want to live, are basically what we want and we’re just upset that we don’t get some perfect candidate with minor differences and childishly throwing a tantrum about it are ignorant and intellectually dishonest.

Some you guys are the bad guys, too, because you insist that the only way forward is to become like you and vote for the corrupt bad guys because they’re lesser bad guys, and to try to stamp out, mock, and otherwise beat the desire to do real good out of anyone and insist that they made the same choice you did to cynically and strategically support the less evil bad guy. And some of you do it gleefully - it’s not even a matter of accepting that you need to vote for the lesser of two evils but you actually viscously try to stamp out anyone else trying to make the world a better place and to become as cynical as you about politics. You’ve grown to accept this bargain you made to support the lesser evil still means you’re supporting evil, and mock and insult anyone who doesn’t happily follow you because you actually really do, through tribal loyalty, identify with the absolute shitshow that is the democratic party, and/or it reminds you of the strategic decisions you made to fight against progressivism about as much as the republicans do.

No, we said the only way to protect Roe v Wade and a whole host of other rights that have been eliminated is to vote for the Democrat. You chose ideology over women’s bodily autonomy. That’s your choice, but do yourself a favor and own it, be honest about it rather than whine and complain that the world isn’t as you demand it to be.

Fuck you. I voted for your shitty party in every election right down the party line, and told everyone else to do so, what the fuck else do you want me to do? And yet they lost anyway, because not only are they corrupt and they don’t even set their goals high, they are wildly incompetent at executing their mediocre goals. Why don’t you be honest and own how you’re enabling a pathetic political party that does nothing but lose over and over again because you think suppressing progressives and chasing the republicans to the right all day has been working just great so far so let’s continue?

I’m actually trying to pull the party in a direction that they can actually win and do something good for people, you’re trying to pull them in a direction of constantly chasing the republicans to the right and get dunked on over and over again so that we can get to where the republicans want to go slightly slower.

I don’t know if you’re getting me mixed up with someone else, but I don’t know how you can possibly come to that conclusion given that my posting in this thread has been about how the democrats are bad because they’re chasing the republicans to the right (among other reasons). I’m the most anti-Republican member of this board.

I never suggested that you should throw out the basic foundation of your country.

But now that you mention it: yeah, maybe you should. Maybe you are taking the proclamations of a bunch of long-dead-white-men just a tad too seriously. Maybe having an “unelected council of wizards” as one of the branches of the United States government wasn’t the greatest of ideas. Maybe basing your gun laws on the interpretation of a single sentence ratified in 1791 is a really stupid thing to do.

What you have quoted here isn’t hyperbole at all. People _are_ being attacked for exercising their democratic right to do what they think is right. Whether those attacks are justified though is largely a matter of opinion.

You are indoctrinated to pledge allegiance to the flag and the republic as _kids_. The constitution is treated so reverently that when you invaded other countries, destroyed their infrastructure, killed their people, you imagined that all they had to do was create their own constitution and everything would be magically okay.

Even the name “founding fathers” says it all really. Its not the “founding parents.” Or the “founding mothers and fathers.” Its the founding men. Or to be precise: the founding _white_ men.

American society is shaped by the words of these long-dead-white-men. The indigenous people, the people bought to the country on slave-ships, women, they all had no say on any of this.

Broad brush?

From the outside looking in, you lot have no idea how weird everything is. America isn’t the “land of the free.” It **locks up more people per capita than anywhere else in the world**. It ranks only 25 on the Heritage (yes, the Heritage!) Foundation index of economic freedom and earns a “mostly free” badge. (For comparison NZ is number 4, and we earn the “free” badge. )

There is this mythical America everyone imagines in their head. But the real America ain’t no Mona Lisa.
