**Moderating:** The back and forth over the exact details of the ICE training prior to the shooting of Renee Good has gone on long enough, it’s become a serious hijack. Take it to one of the other threads or spin off your own (hint hint). Unfortunately that very much _is_ a “normal police force”. ICE are new, poorly trained and overarmed, and for those reasons and more, _worse_ than most regular police, admittedly. But not qualitatively _different_ from the past century or two of American policing, just with more firepower. The trend has been going the wrong direction for the past few decades, and that slope has accelerated downward recently. But it isn’t and hasn’t been a qualitative transformation. Folksy uncle types who looked just like Andy Griffith did this same stuff 75 years ago too. It’s an ongoing problem that is getting much worse in recent years, but not a _new_ problem at all. ---
