How are you reacting, personally, to the shutdown/default threat?

I’m making sure my American Government students know exactly what is happening and exactly who is to blame for it.

I’ve decided to start giving money to the Democratic Party again. I had stopped after the last election, and I’m on the verge of leaving the party, but for now, I’m pumping money back into it.

I don’t think a stronger Democratic party is the answer - maybe you should pump your money into a third party.

The money I have in the stock market is a piddling compared to the losses I’m suffering in this furlough. I’m out of vacation time tomorrow, and after that, I doubt I keep getting paid. I’m unemployed for the next few weeks, I guess.

Financially, I’m making no changes. I feel my job is secure and my investments are basically sound.

I did lose some investment money during the last financial crisis, but my investments have since recovered. I don’t think it is possible to calculate what I lost and feel I would be at least a bit further ahead if it weren’t for that last crisis. I suspect my savings and investments will take a hit again and recover again since I am a bit far from retirement.

Last time around, my friend pulled a bunch of her investments. I don’t know how she did afterwards, but I suspect she just turned a paper loss into an actual loss since she acted a little late.

I do wish the so-called ‘party of fiscal responsibility’ would quit jacking with the money. They clearly have no idea what they are doing. I hope they pay for it by losing all their big money donors. They would deserve it.

My money lives in my bank account, and I don’t work for the (federal) government nor does anyone I care about. No me importa mucho.

As one of the Left Behind (AKA “excepted”), I’m doing the job of 4 people (actually more but who’s counting). And I don’t know when my next pay check is coming.

Thanks Congress!

Obsessively checking forums for updates / gallows humour, and reassuring my girlfriend that it’s all going to be over by the time we’re flying to America for our big holiday and we won’t be touching down in the smoking ruins of a once-great nation come October 17th, and that we haven’t wasted upwards of a thousand quid on a Grand Canyon tour.

I’ve been enjoying my time off. Not exactly fun not getting paid, though now they say we should, but I can still enjoy my time off. The weather has been great, I’ve done a lot of things I wouldn’t normally get to do.

Honestly, the only thing that sucks for me is when I get back to work I have charts that will have to be printed right away, meaning more time for mistakes.

I’m not going to worry about my 401, my stocks or anything like that. I’m going to let it ride as I did in 2008 and all the value and then some came way back up. I have 17+ years until retirement so I’m good for now.

I do feel for those contractors and all who have to use leave before going on no pay status, that really sucks, I would think a lot would rather keep the leave, or at least part of it.

I’m not really doing much of anything except spitting into the wind on Facebook.

I agree with Paul Krugman, one side has to outright win over the other. The Republicans are so unhinged and so dangerous to our way of life, I believe they have to be taken out before we can even think about what comes next.
