Mother, Sister, Spouse-of-Sister, Me, My Spouse, two kids from me and two kids on my sister’s side… Nine chairs at the Thanksgiving table. My father is alive but not actively part of the family. He has step-children from his later marriage but they’re not genetically his and I don’t interact with them at all. ---

From my parents on down: mother - 1 Self and siblings - 4 Spouses - 4 Children of self and siblings - 23 Total - 32. Oldest is 63, youngest will be a year right after Thanksgiving. ---

2 parents 1 “dad’s wife” who I already count reluctantly among “family” so I’m sure as hell not including her kids from her previous marriage. 2 siblings, unmarried Myself and my husband So we’re a tiny family. A grand total of 7 if we’re being generous. But in reality, my parents are divorced and hate to be in the same room, my dad’s wife is dying and needs full-time care, and both my sister and I moved hundreds of miles away from home. So we’re not all getting together again until it’s time for an important wedding or funeral. ---

This year is my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. None of the grandkids are married yet, but a couple have graduated from college already, and this will probably be the last time that all of us will be able to go on a vacation together just because trying to get everyone’s schedules to work out will be more difficult. We’re looking forward to it. It’s a 9 day cruise. ---
