I work for an international banking corporation, so it’s burn-the-midnight-oil time, at least for the departments I’m associated with.
In general, we understand that internet polls aren’t really the most reliable or scientifically accurate. But this poll has the added bonus in that anyone who’s super busy is less likely to even be surfing the Dope in the first place.
I’m back for the first day of work (Wednesday) after the four day Christmas break. It’s very quiet. I estimate that we have around 70% of the staff away on leave.
Commercial landscape firm. Slow as all hell until January when people get back from their vacations and think “Oh, crap, I’m going to want this work done in March! Quick, send me bids!”
Fool of a Took! You forgot…
I’m always busy at the end of the month: therefore, I’m busy at the end of the year, but only because it’s the end of the month. If the end of the year came at the beginning of the month, it wouldn’t be too bad.

The college is shut down between Christmas Eve and New Year’s, so no one is even in the office.
Right now I’m setting up a concert in Niagara Falls for New Years. Live events isn’t normally what I do, but I’m just as busy now as I will be six months from now.
I’m one of a few people in a small department who does cost estimating and sends out the invoicess. Accounting wants everything wrapped up because we “close the books” the second business day of the new year. They don’t want to have a lot of stuff to accrue.
Around this time every year I’m mentally thinking, “Oh yeah? Accrue dis!!!”
I’m doing IT/EDI in an office. Many of our clients go on vacation, so there’s not much EDI, and many of the employees go on vacation, so there’s not much IT. I’d say it’s the slowest week of the year for me.
I do a lot of job monitoring and tape backup monitoring. This time of year no one likes to get paged in the middle of the night when a new and shiny script goes awry when they’re on vacation, so it’s even slower than usual.
