Speaking just for myself, his health is so bad right now that there is no way he could last another four years in the job. I think that’s just on-the-surface obvious, no medical degree required. (FWIW, I doubt that Biden would have made it another four years either. Maybe not die, but I don’t think he had the energy or the capacity for the job any more.)
If Trump were to die, then I think his cult would more or less understand. But of course there would be conspiracies. If JD and crew were to pull a 25 on the geezer, then it would be only conspiracies. The cult wants only its god, and they would love to have a new target for their hate. JD would fit the bill perfectly. He would have allies on neither the right nor left, and it would be a nightmare for him.
It seems conspiracies have always followed such things. I was reading about Huey Long’s assassination yesterday, and there were conspiracy theories right from the start.
Yeah, haha, but that billboard is good political messaging. Simple, direct, hits on a real issue that directly impacts voters in their daily lives. The wits here at the Dope may laugh but a lot of voters would say, “You know, things really were cheaper under Trump.”
I’d be a lot more terrified about this election if Trump had the discipline to relentlessly hammer home an economic message like this rather than talking about Arnold Palmer’s dick.
Yep. The higher-than-usual inflation of 2021-22 hurt some people, but they don’t realize a) A healthy economy always has some degree of inflation, and b) prices aren’t going to go back down no matter who gets elected.
They always do. It doesn’t matter what happens in the next two weeks, or four years, there are going to be conspiracy theories about it. That’s the only safe bet we have any more.
Trump dies? He was assassinated. He’s not really dead, he’s being held captive. He’s not really dead, he’s just running things from behind the scenes so that Harris won’t have him assassinated.
Trump lives? He’s been replaced by a body double. He’s been replaced by a clone. He’s had all his blood replaced with that of virgin schoolchildren.
Trump gets 25thed? He’s perfectly fine, this is a coup! He’s utterly deranged, but this is still a coup! This is just Step One in the plan, they’ll impeach Vance next, so the new Democratic Speaker of the House can Steal the Presidency!
The incumbent always gets blamed for the bad things that happen. They also get to take credit for good things that happen even if it’s not because of their policies. Like it or not, Harris isn’t Biden but she has to answer for everything that happened during his presidency.
People don’t care if “the economy” is doing good. Those are just numbers. They care if their personal economy is doing good. Saying that “some people” got hurt by inflation is ignoring what is the number 1 issue with voters. I’m not in a battleground state so I’m not seeing everything others are. If she’s not hitting the economy head on it’s a mistake.
If Trump promised $2 gas and $1 eggs, a lot of voters would believe he could actually deliver. (In fact, I wonder why he hasn’t.)
Is inflation really the number 1 issue? If so, Harris would have this thing locked up, because inflation is back down to 2%. (Yes, another number.) I get that many people feel they’re not doing as well as they were, but I hope there aren’t enough voters simplistic enough to think that Trump being re-elected will magically make them whole again.
The YouTuber LegalEagle has posted a video endorsing Kamala Harris for president. While that probably won’t change anyone’s mind it is a handy list of the long list of crimes and issues Trump has along with the terrible people Trump surrounds himself with.
No, it’s what prices are because of inflation. Inflation is continuing to rise, and that’s under control. But the effect on prices of prior inflation is what people are upset about. It is because of inflation, but doesn’t go away when inflation goes to zero.
Sadly, a lot of people do. Others are sure Democratic policies under Harris will drive up taxes to 75%. Or that Republicans are low tax and reduced beauracracy, that allows a stronger economy because businesses have fewer hurdles and less expenses. Yet they don’t understand that it’s those hurdles and expenses that protect the citizens from unchecked corporate power.
Case in point is Texas’s power grid. It’s independent from the rest of the US so Texas can avoid federal regulations. So power companies were making money, and then when we needed a robust grid in the winter freeze, all those power companies failed us. Governor Abbott was all upset that they failed blah blah blah, but it’s exactly because they didn’t do what the US system said they needed to do too protect the grid.
So those companies continued to charge exhorbitant rates while people were freezing to death, chasing up ridiculously high bills because demand went up and supply down. Anyone in a variable rate plan for screwed.
Then those same companies want tax dollars to fix the grid.
People don’t seem to remember the robber barons, or why unions were invented in the first place. And they don’t seem to understand that corporate bigwigs can claim they like clean air and water, but they don’t want to pay to make sure of it.
Whether they’re upset about “prices” or inflation," my question is whether that’s truly voters’ number one issue. If so – if enough swing state voters are truly leaning toward Trump because stuff that used to cost $3 now costs $3.50 – then we’re truly a nation of whiny ass bitches and deserve to be consigned to the dustbin of history.
There’s a strange dichotomy going on where the average American says their personal financial situation is ok (maybe not great but not bad) but they believe the general economy is bad.
That is, people believe something that is not true either by personal experience or by the numbers. It’s an article of faith now, which is nigh impossible to counter by any sort of conventional means.
