How can GWB be leading in the Polls???

Um, the the “brown-skinned people” quote is from Bush’s press conference last week.

My next sentence was “Tempremental two year olds think that way too.” Feel free to think that the sentence contained a racial slur. Meanwhile, I’ll feel free to think that you’re a fucking idiot. Happy now?

You obviously have not been paying attention. Assumptions based on ignorance are not really worth attention. Kerry’s plans are far more detailed than you suggest. But, just keep parrotting what you’ve been told…

Do you have any understanding as to why this is? That maybe it is because Bush has alienated almost the populations, and most of the governments, of the entire world? Also, are you not aware that there are countries willing to devote more support, provded the UN takes a stronger hand in helping rebuild the country? That maybe, just maybe, Bush’s “Yer eether wif us er yer aginst us” hasn’t been such a great diplomatic success? THINK.

The only bullshit here is the stuff you used to build this little strawman.

**Desmostylus - **

It may be fun to stereotype and mischaracterize conservatives. It may be easy to dismiss conservatives with snide remarks and arrogant generalizations. It may be satisfying to disregard conservatives as foolish or hateful or just plain dumb.

By all means though, I beg of you, continue to have fun, continue to be dismissive, and continue to feel satisfied. And by all means support Kerry in his fun, his dismissiveness, and his satisfaction. The result will be a second term for GWB in the White House.

So every time Kerry, or any other liberal who doesn’t know me, calls me a racist, a hatemonger, a partisan, a war-hawk, an idiot, a fool, a bigot, an elitist, an imperialist; calls me uneducated, power-hungry, paranoid, angry, or just plain dumb; I rejoice in knowing that sort of rhetoric leads only to one place in American presidential politics – defeat.

There’s a difference between “conservatives” and the wingnut brigade that Shodan belongs to. I really, really, really, don’t make any kind of equation that “conservative” = “bad”.

**Knorf – **

To borrow a phrase from a great American – There you go again.

I am paying attention and have been for some time. You keep saying in thread that Kerry’s plans are very detailed, yet instead of giving those details you instead either insult or dismiss your opponent.

So. I’ll ask again. What are Kerry’s detailed plans for Iraq (or for any issue)? If you dismiss me or insult I will assume (again) that you either don’t know what his plans are and you are lying, or that he really doesn’t have any plans after all.

Good point and excellent all round strategy. In fact, I myself favor the death penalty for homicidal maniacs, including Shodan and others of his ilk, who I have defined as homicidal maniacs. But ,being the tolerant kind of guy that I am, I have nothing at all against people that I define as conservatives, who I define to be people like Dick Gephardt. Maybe even John McCain.

Listen to me very carefully. I shall try to use short words and avoid contractions (those confusing words with these:’ things in them). This is about the third time someone has asked you:

WHAT IS KERRY’S “DETAILED” PLAN?

You keep saying that he has one, yet you refuse to post links, elaborate yourself or do anything other than accuse those raising the questions of “parrotting what they’ve been told”. I am a moderate voter who dislikes Bush. Instead of lobbing insults from your imagined high ground of smug superiority, how about showing me where Kerry has given me a reason to vote for him?

Maybe, maybe, maybe…bullshit. Instead of throwing out maybes, how about some facts? You seem to be lindly holding on to the idea that if France, or Germany or, I dunno, Freedonia commited troops to Iraq, the whole war would change. Islamic extremists would lay down their weapons, radical clerics would suddenly decide not to keep making a bid for power in postwar Iraq, Sinnis and Shi’ites would suddenly realize that centuries of conflict were misguided and join together to put daisies in the barrels of soldier’s guns…what exactly do you imagine will change? Iraq will still be a country where a minority of fanatical idiots are willing to commit terrorists acts against anyone and everyone in a desperite bid to gain power, holding the majority of Iraqis who wish to establish a peaceful government hostage to their violence. Weather the troops that do it are American, France, Canadian or Martian ( or-here’s a wild idea-Iraqi(!) ), these terrorists must be rooted out and destroyed.

You are still invited to provide some proof, see above.

I still haven’t heard a decent explanation for the justification of this war. Is there any concrete evidence of connections with AQ?

I remember from that press conference someone asking Bush about the lack of WMD, and he just rambled on about how dangerous he was.

Now if he had no connections with AQ (safe to assume he didn’t until proven otherwise), and he didn’t have any WMD, then what exactly made him so dangerous? The bad vibes he was sending?

BTW, I think Kerry is an idiot, and he needs to stop bashing Bush and to run on his own merits. On the other hand, I think the arrogant way in which Bush is conducting business is actually counterproductive to the goal of securing our country, so I’ll take my chances with Kerry the idiot.

True story:

In 1972, Richard Nixon thrashed George McGovern in one of the most lopsided presidential races in American history.

After the dust had settled, Pauline Kael, longtime New Yorker film critic and avid participant in the Upper West Side liberal intellegentsia cocktail party circuit, famously fretted “How can that be? No one I know voted for Nixon.” In her circle of friends, McGovern would have thrashed Nixon, and not the other way around.

Doubtlessly, if Bush wins in November, there will be a long stream of posts on the SDMB wondering how that could be, since none of the people they knew voted for Bush. I take the OP as just the beginning of that trend.

I guess it’s not very intelligent of me to misspell “intelligentsia.”

This is very difficult for any challenger. He has to make the case that we need a change and that the guy in there now is not getting the job done. The incumbent tends to emphasize how great things are, and as a plus he can throw out attacks on the challenger as well.

Kerry is not an idiot, and his campaign is largely a product of the situation he finds himself in.

It’s amazing how many people (not WE specifically) who have themselves have accomplished little in life and are reduced to whining on message boards seem to genuinely believe that people who have risen to the point of being senators or presidents are idiots.

Blow it out your ass, boy. Act like you’re more than 12 years old and maybe I’ll treat you that way.

Tell me how this translates into anythng except “I made the whole thing up”

You are entirely wrong, which suggests that it would behoove you to do a little reasearch before opening that cum dumpster you call a mouth and spouting off. Carter lost the election in 80 because the American people were tired of double digit inflation, loan rates and unemployment. His seeming inability to do anything about the hostages was icing on the cake, nothing more.

Assuming this was true ( and I don’t agree, foreign policy is the one area Bush has gotten right, although his execution of it has been poor and incompetent. I despise the man because he wants to establish a theocracy here at home while weakening the Bill of Right as much as humanly possible ), again, I ask you for an example of HOW France could send this “subtle signal” you seem so fond of. C’mon, give me a hypothetical, I won’t even hold you to it, I just want to know how it would work.

I think it much more likely that the average Iraqi ( NOT one of the minority of the population that is commiting kidnappings and other atrocities in a bid for power) would be scared to death of a Kerry win, wondering “What if this guy (Kerry) pulls US troops out of here without a replacement Government in place, leaving us at the mercy of these terrorists and murderers who want to sieze power”?

Do I believe that Iraq had anything to do with the 9/11 attacks, that Saddam and bin Laden were butt buddies, plotting the overthrow of America together? Of course not. However, I do believe that Iraq under SH was a terrorists nation and as such was a worthy target, not because of any immaginary threat from WMD, but because if the civilized world is ever going to win the war on terrorism ( in the larger sense, not Bush’s catch phrase), we have to make it clear that a regime that supports terrorists WILL be attacked and annialated. After the attack on Iraq, Syria changed it’s position 180 degrees, Lybia disarmed, Iran came to the table to discuss disarmament, even North Korea has been more amenable to at least discussing nuclear issues. These are solid, concrete gains made in the past year, not some ideological “War is bad, Mmm’kay” rheteroc that seems so popular with the Loonie Left. “Muslem extremists”? Do I believe that men looking to solidify power for themselves here and now are waving the banner of Islam, perverting it’s teachings to garner support from the huddled masses? Absolutely. I am suprised that even you can even attempt to deny that that is occuring.

Well at this point in time it should be pretty easy to show that things aren’t too great. We’ve squandered the global goodwill from 9/11, we’re spreading ourselves too thin, we’re wasting hundreds of billions building a nation that doesn’t want us there, etc, etc.

Situation he finds himself in? I think with the resources he currently has, he isn’t getting his message out, in fact the only thing he’s running on as already suggested is “he’s not Bush”. He needs to be aware of this perception, and he needs to take active steps to remedy it. If he doesn’t do something about this critical, obvious situation, I can only assume he’s an idiot.

What the hell are you talking about? How the hell do you judge via text what someone has accomplished in life?

As far as senators and presidents being idiots, sure why the hell not? I know lawyers that are idiots, I know cops that are idiots, I know people from all walks of life that are idiots. My girlfiend is a med student, and she and I are blown away at the number of med students that are idiots People whom I assumed had their shit together tighter then anyone else, who will move on to become some of our most respected citizens.

Judas fucking priest, are you ever a lying sack.

This is the quote:

And this is what you claimed he said:

In other words, you are a fucking liar.

The question is not, “How can Bush be ahead?” The question is now, “When the liberal Left is such a pack of despicable liars and hypocrites, what kind of moron would join them in supporting Kerry?”

Still sore about that other thread Weirddave?

But golly see what happens when I don’t discriminate against the disabled. Get ideas above their station. Try and mix it with their betters.

It’s a burden I’ll bear. But Stick with manual work Weirddave, there’s a good laddie. No future for you elsewhere, naught but grief thatway.

I’ll find more worthy objects of my charity elsewhere.

Here’s Kerry’s plan for Iraq, Weirddave. He calls it a peace plan, but because Kerry calls for more troops, plus UN military involvement, it doesn’t look all that peaceful. It’s also impractical, given international repugnance at sending soldiers to die for American military objectives.

oooohhhh…sounds purty.

What John Kerry fails to address is what happens if other countries don’t step in to help, or the UN fails to do its part in the scenario. His whole plan would fall apart on these points.

Which isn’t so farfetched, since it’s these two little stickling points that were such problems last time.

Is it so damn much to ask that Kerry’s plan actually be realistic? He is running for President, after all.

Must you be spoon-fed? Pick an issue to explore.

Hmmm. No response to the actual subject of previous posts. Further proof that you got nothing but weak insults to offer. I think the Tiger Beat forums would be more your speed, child. Go away and let the grownups talk in peace.

I may not be able to tell you with any credibility that Bush is any worse or better then Kerry, but I think just about anyone should have been able to see how incredibly horrible that press conference was. The man bumbled his way through the entire thing, or at least as much as I was able to stomach. At the very least he does not inspire confidence when he speaks which should be at the very top of the list for presidential qualifications.
