The question speaks for itself I guess. I am so effin’ sick to death of embedded video and animations and text blilnking on web pages I really need to _do_ something to block them. If it moves, I _hate_ it. What options do I have, if any?

It seems like I was able to block some key sites in ZoneAlarm once upon a time which helped, but I lost the list of sites. But a better solution is some kind of filter that detects video and such and just plain kills them or stops them after one frame or something. Anything like that exist?

Try a local proxy such a Proxomitron. It has the advantage of working for any of your multiple browsers, you know, if you use multiple browsers.

FireFox + [NoScript](https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/) may be close to what you want. Unfortunately many sites become completely unusable if you disable scripts, but you can selectively allow scripts selectively (i.e. only on specified sites).

You can’t kill all the stuff, without making the browser unable to show all of what you want. Use what ever filter you want and then you have to start disabling browser functions. Write down your changes or when you can’t log in on the straight dope you be out of luck. I run Enigma Browser, which is free and an IE based browser. I keep it set for medium security and blocking. I run Firefox at meium blocking , but different things. I choose between them by what I want to see and do on the internet. Internet Explorer I keep most functions enabled and use it for Windows updated and securepape viewing. I use it for anypape that doesn’t load on my other browsers.

Most of the moving ad’s are now Flash, so you have to disable Flash. You can disable scripting, and Active-X. Remember that web sites wont log you in if some of the stuff is shut off.

I would give the Enigma Browser and Firefox a try. Enigma has a good filter built in, that you can set. Firefox will need a filter extension installed. Just remember you can set browser where you can’t get logged in.

Thanks for your replies. I guess I would be happy enough to just disable Flash. How do I do that?

FireFox + AdBlock Plus gets rid of most of the annoying stuff, I find, whilst leaving most sites usable. Anything that slips through can be added to a list of blocked content.
