That’s a good approach. The problem with minor flaws like that is that you notice them. If you can get the general color to match the rest of the top, and maybe take a fine point sharpie and draw little lines to match the grain, no else may notice it. But it will still stick out like a sore thumb to you because you already know it’s there.
