How can I make a single wireless network over my whole house?

If you want to spend the money there are new products on the market that setup a mesh network in your home. Basically just one thing to connect to for the whole house (three units work in tandem).

So it’s been a week since I set up my new network. I went with two Ubiquiti AC Lite units to provide coverage for my 3 story plus basement house. Physical installation was relatively easy as they come with Power over Ethernet (PoE) adapters, so all you need is an AC outlet by the router and a Ethernet cable to the access point.

I put one at the front of the house on the 1st floor, one at the back on the 2nd floor.

The big difference between these and consumer units is there is no built in web server, you need to run a Java based controller to set them up. Once they are set up, you don’t need to have the controller running.

My house now has complete coverage with no dead spots. It’s all on a single SSID, and band steering will automatically move clients to 5GHz if it is capable.

Overall, for less than $175 I have much better WiFi than I previously had.

Glad to hear it’s working for you.
