How can I stop my dogs from barking at random times?

Doxie does this when I tell him to speak. Its awesome!

And terrifying. The vet actually muzzled her the other day. I felt like she reach a new milestone and was very proud of her.

Yay?

What are peoples recommendations for bark collars? I currently have a garmin. I initially thought it worked well, but now doesnt seem to work consistently or the dog has gotten used to it and doesnt care. Any brand better than another?

A few things to look at before you give up before you give up on the Garmin:

Have you checked the battery on the Garmin?
Is it set to the right level? You should be able to bump the strength up.
Fit of the collar is also important. If it’s so loose that the collar swings around, and doesn’t stay in place, then it won’t detect the noise.
If the dog has long fur, then the prongs might not reach the skin. You can get longer prongs, or shave the neck.

If none of that works, you can try sportdog.com.

Im full strength now. I may have an extremely stubborn dog (springer spaniel). She is great dog other than barking at things that are a mile away. Problem is at nite with windows open she will bark and wake everyone up. Or she will bark when baby is napping during the day. Love her to pieces, just wish the barking would at least be less frequent. Ill give sportdog a shot
Thanks!

I bought it at PetSmart, and it was expensive. It responded to noise and vibration together, so only a loud bark from the dog herself triggered the shock. It had ten levels of response. The strength of the response went up each time the dog barked. I think there was a time frame within which the dog had to bark again.
