I am really into heavy metal. I am 13, and have liked it for about a year (ish). this whole time i have hid it from my parents. I have no idea what they would say do or tjink about me considering im the eldest of three kids in the family. i like five finger death punch, disturbed, hatebreed, killswitch engage, as i lay dying, avenged sevenfold. i would really like for my parents to know who i am and what i like but i dont know how i should do that. any opinions and maybe some advice? ---

I believe the traditional manner is to blast it in your room so loud that it shakes up your parents in the other half of the house. ---

Here’s the thing: you don’t have to share every aspect of yourself with your parents. As you get older, you start to share less, and that’s perfectly OK, you’re setting yourself up to be an adult who is capable of living independently. And if you get to that stage, your parents have done a decent job of raising you. I’m not suggesting you ‘hide’ your love of metal from them. Just…don’t bring it up, unless they ask. Whilst you are living in their house, being cared for (emotionally and financially) by them, you do need to live under their rules. So I’d suggest that means using headphones if you want to listen to music you know they won’t like. ---

yea, i have my headphones in almost 24/7. in my room mostly or wjen i take my bike rides every day. the only thing im worried about is my own parents judging me. ---
