Oh no you’re not! When it comes to really bad for you fast food, TB is my all time fav. I call it Taco Barf euphamistically tho.
Where else can you eat so cheap? A starving student can get three tacos and a glass of water for something like $1.50. Try that at Burger Queen or McSugarHigh.
I loves me some greasy old tacos from TB! And nothing cures a hangover better.
I’ll also point out that, until the recent introduction of veggie burgers at Burger King (the US version of which BTW is nasty and nothing like the very tasty UK/Ireland version) it was very difficult for vegetarians to get fast food in America. Taco Bell was a godsend for that reason alone.
Speaking of vegetarians, I ate TB’s 7 Layer Burrito for years thinking it had meat in it. Imagine my suprise, and the glee my veggy friends had when I found out they’re cow-free.
I’ll admit that the meat is of the lowest saleable quality, and the cheese is the same uniform mediocrity as everywhere in the US, but you need pretty good rolls to make a proper cheesesteak. I’ll not argue, though, that the end result is wonderful.
And no, I don’t think anyone knows who invented the sandwich. Probably the same ancient Egyptian who invented bread.
The Indian:Mexican analogy does seem to make sense, though. It’s very difficult to get good (even in the fast-food sense of the word) Indian food in the US.
I’ve lived in America and I’ve lived in England, and I would say that it is much easier to get good Indian food in America than it is to get good Mexican food in England.
I’ll agree that Taco Smell is like the thousandth copy of an original document out of the copier. The copy is a distorted, pale imitation of the original. If you Brits really want some good, reasonably priced Mexican food, yell really loudly for Baja Fresh. It’s a chain Mexican restaurant that’s a step up from fast food. Last time I was there, a combo plate cost about $10.00, but you got a lot of food that was fresh and delicious.
