Sorry, **wring** for letting my emotions get in the way of my reasoning. There’s a tremendous disparity in the percentages cited between the US and Canadian studies. Perhaps it’s because the Canadian study looks at a longer period of time after the initial crime, which suggests to me (total WAG) that more pervs wait a few years before getting up the gumption to try again. I am REALLY disinclined to devote much time to this sickness, but I’m interested in knowing the rate of, for lack of a better term, _psychological recividism_ or more specifically, do they actually ever _stop_ wanting to molest children? It seems to me that it would be tantamount to someone “stopping being gay”, IOW, not likely. Again, I could be off base there. That a low percentage of them _get caught_ molesting children again doesn’t give me the warm fuzzies, since it’s a crime generally committed in private on people that may not be as likely to report it or be able to testify. ---

I apologize for an admittedly flippant remark. I don’t think the way you characterize me. Also, the OP stated the the lawyer defended the molester by saying he didn’t know it was wrong, part of the reason for that being that he was from India. An Indian lawyer inferred that there is a cultural difference between India and the US regarding child molestation. Perhaps you should ask him what he meant by that.:rolleyes: ---

If he said anything about there being cultural differences between the U.S. and India regarding attitudes towards child molestation, he’s an asshole and a liar. Doesn’t mean you have to be one too. Yes, I’m really more pissed about the lawyer using cultural differences to spring his client (for child molestation), which I think is appalling. I just think that they (child molesters) need a whole shitload of psychological help and need to be evaluated very carefully before just saying “ok, you can go home to mommy now”. And if you confided to me that you coudn’t stop thinking about blowing off people’s heads in traffic, I would very strongly recommend that you get help, and if you didn’t, I’d tell somebody in your family, etc. what you told me. The key is “couldn’t stop thinking about it”; that’s probably not normal. Anybody who drives to work in a big city may entertain thoughts of blowing people’s heads off (I sure do), but it’s not a compulsion. ---
