My story is almost exactly the same as Narrad’s.
I didn’t discover there was a message board until I’d read all the old columns on the website and accidentaly pressed the message board button.
It’s been the most informative mistake I’ve made in a while.
Another Aussie checking in here… I found out about this site via another site… Thoughtviper (don’t ask me how I found THAT site!).
Didn’t really have much interest in the message boards until much later… I think I was having a particularly bored day at work when I thought… ahhhh what the hell

European doper - I was aware of the site through a former boss, but not the message board, until yojimbo introduced me to it.
another googler, and i got hooked straight away. i’m an old aussie now (literally and metaphysically) sitting a long way from home, but still watching the cricket and rugby when i can. saturday was about the the best rugby game i’ve ever seen!
Bored on nightshift one night. Asked a friend (micilin) about good sites. He said www.straightdope.com was a good read. Sent Cecil a question and got directed to MB.
Then told/bored my other friends about it. Some joined ala jjimm
So most of us were surfing the seas of internet ignorance when washed ashore an oasis of enlightenment (complete with a few dipsticks).
I saw a recommendation in the music magazine Q. Came back every week to check out the columns before noticing the threadspotting button.
