In one trick where Teller is run over by the tires of a truck they had Victoria Jackson stand across the street to witness the backside of the trick and to look for any fakery. And so, after he was run over and came out unharmed, they asked Victoria, “Did you see any fakery?” and she said, “No.” Then, when they revealed the trick, they showed the tire was fake foam. And so they went back to Victoria, “I thought you said you saw no fakery?” and she said, “I lied!”

I have seen them do it and I must say that it was so obvious how it was done that I think one should use some other word than trick.

Also, Copperfield did the trick in 1983. At some point, there’s gotta be a statute of limitations on spoilers.

FTR, the third guy with Gretzky and Copperfield is Bruce McNall. He was the one time owner of the LA Kings (when Gretzky got there) and he was the owner of the Honus Wagner card.

ETA: As such, the trick had to have been performed well after 1983.
