Can one ask to get their title changed to just Member, even though they got the Charter Membership?

Why not just charge a fee for manually changing the titles of those who are willing to pay it? Maybe a one time $25.00 fee to restore a CM title if it has expired? Or perhaps a $100.00 fee would allow for the time and resources needed to rework the database system that is preventing easy restoration of this membership level now. For that matter, why not offer a menu of titles for a price? (“Grand Poobah” for a one time fee of 250.00, or “Unca Cece’s Favorite” for a one time fee of, say, One Billion Dollars). It seems the title, and the title alone, is worth something to many, I think the SDMB is missing a golden revenue stream if typing 2 words into a database under the members name could generate more revenue than the subscription itself.
Do you really expect us to believe this? I don’t.

See here’s the thing – I don’t really care. You all are really not important to my daily life. I know you like to think that the SDMB is SUPER-IMPORTANT, but it’s not. For most people it’s an entertaining aside.

At the end of the day you need to figure out a way to provide “Charter Member” status to all your CORE subscribers. You really don’t want to piss those people off.

No, we do not want to “control” who has what title. That’s set up by the rules of the game. We are willing to discuss reconsidering the special case of folks who lost the Charter Member title this year because of short notice. Otherwise, the rules are the rules and they’re imbedded in the system administration that is beyond the reach of the mods/admins.
Okay, I came in to gripe about the $7! I apparently missed the window and resubscribed late, too (That’s what I get for doing Lilith Fair a favor and dogsitting for two weeks). Though I’d like to be a Charter Member again, I’m more perturbed that I missed the deadline for the discount…But I just rechecked the subscription notice, which came on the 24th, and I don’t see a deadline date on there…I guess I should go read all those threads?
That would be a really nice touch. As others have said, it’s not the price (and what other rights ans privs were there? Did I miss out on the sanctioned orgies?), it’s the title. I just want the title back.
If you care so little, why have you posted here more than anyone else and in no other thread for the past couple of days?

I would be willing to compromise and accept a status of “Charter Weenie.” That would be pretty cool, actually.

Why are people saying that they missed the renew window?
My current expire date is 5-20-2010.
It said the same thing when I re-upped a few months ago.
You can renew your subscription anytime it is less that a year until the expiration date.
In my case, I can renew anytime from 5-21-2009 until 5-20-2010.
364 days.

Have we been renewing every single year? Hasn’t there been automatic renewal in the past? I don’t recall having to renew that many times since I originally joined.

I frankly think this is a bunch of bunk. Those of us who have been here for nigh on 10 years now lose status because we happened to be on vacation when the membership lapsed, and now it can never be reinstated? I KNOW you can change the status for members, because this BB software allows it…other boards I’ve been a part of with this software change the status of people to a wide variety of things at their request …so I’d be really interested in knowing why YOU can’t do it. It honestly feels like a huge slap in the face.
Not that I’ve ever seen. I’ve always renewed manually, but I think I renewed for two years at some point.
