Radioactive girlfriend. I like her.
Plutonium can certainly be hazardous if mishandled, but it’s hardly “one of the most toxic substances in the world” unless you’re grinding it into a powder and snorting it. That idea is a bullshit urban legend, largely created by Ralph Nader.
@mixdenny I mentioned this scam in a recent scam awareness video I made - I didn’t mention you by name or link to this site as a source of the information I presented, partly because there is an ongoing problem in the comments with toxic people saying stuff like ‘if you are stupid enough to fall for this you deserve to lose all your money’ and I did not want to attract any of that toxicity back to here.
Just to fill out a few more (additional to those I listed above) of the ‘scam marker’ attributes though, pertaining to this site selling the fake periodic table ornament:
- The pictures of the product are inconsistent - in some of the photos, the banner text ‘periodic table of elements’ is all on one line - in others, this title is broken into title and subtitle; this can be a red flag indicating that the product images are stolen from elsewhere and collected together for the scam page.
- All of the reviews on the page describe the product as ‘the product’ - nobody in the reviews actually mentions what the product is. Also some of the product reviews don’t really make sense given than the item for sale is an decorative ornament; one of them says they are ‘using’ it; another one says they were so delighted they bought two of them - that would make sense for a consumable product; not so much for an ornament (if they bought the second one as a gift, they’d probably have said so).
- The page is overseasoned with emojis
- The product description stinks of ChatGPT; " A PERFECT COMPANION Your perfect companion to virtually anywhere: at home complimenting your space, traveling and photography, school or the office, studying with friends, and so much more…"
- The site itself has no real product categories; given that they apparently sell gifts, cleaning products, apparel, etc, it’s weird that their products are only categorised into ‘new arrivals’ (which is an empty category) and ‘all products’ - this is an indication that the site was set up in a hurry with minimal effort and care, which is a common marker of scams (it’s also an indicator that nobody actually ‘shops’ on their site - the only way people arrive there is via a product link).
I have something that looks remarkably like the item they described. It actually has samples. If yours contains drawings instead of samples, the website is simply not telling the truth.
If you get another, consider getting it from Amazon, where I got mine. It was around $30 as well, and I can look at the item from the side to confirm there are physical samples there.
