# How do Humans get VD?

In [Can animals get VD? - The Straight Dope](http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/733/can-animals-get-vd) cecil went over how animals who have been domesticated get VD and wild animals less so. My question is how did the first human get VD? If from animals where did they first get it? It’s not like the mere act of sex creates disease out of whole cloth.

Venereal diseases evolved just like any other disease. When a virus or other infectious agent finds a niche in which it can thrive, or undergoes a mutation that allows it to thrive in a new niche, you get a population explosion and a new VD.
