# How do I change my SDMB photo?

I’ve been an SDMB member for years. It seems my account has been reset and I need to know how I can change the graphic from the uninteresting big “W”. Thanks in advance.

Click on your profile picture on the top-right of the screen.
Go to Preferences.
You’ll find an entry that shows your current profile picture.
Click on the pencil to change it.
And welcome back!

I followed your instructions and could NOT change anything. Also I tried using THREE different browsers (Brave, Firefox and Chrome) AND I tried double-clicking, left-clicking, right-clicking all to unavail. ARRGGGHHHH!!!
The Straight Dope is a GREAT Message Board, Chat Room, etc for engaging in scintillating conversations with interesting people.
But when it comes to running an Internet Message Board, those folks running it leave a LOT to be desired!!! SO, I do not get thrown off the SDMB, just imagine that I’ve typed several dozen vulgarities!!! ARRGGGHHHH!!!

On the Preferences menu, choose the icon of a head at the bottom of the menu.

I wonder if new accounts don’t have access to changing the avatar. I seem to remember that there is a very low trust level initially.

They have authority to add an avatar.
### To add or change Avatar:
- Click on your Avatar next to the Menu. (Upper Right Corner)
- Select Profile (last symbol on the right)
- Select Preferences again (The gear symbol)
- Under Account, under Profile Picture click the edit button
- Click upload and select a picture that is around 100x100 pixels.
- Click Save Changes

Hint: If you upload a larger image, the system will automatically resize it to the 48x48 px icon size but the enlarged icon that users see when they click on it or as displayed in your profile will be higher resolution. For example, if you click on my icon, you get an image that’s much bigger but still very sharp.
