A friend of mine dyed their mostly terrier mutt multi-colored camo for Hallowe’en. They used food coloring. It was color fast enough not to get on the furnirutre, but still wore off over time (and several washes) The pooch had a blue beard for a really long time though. I’d totally laugh if someone dyed the Pooch, providing I knew he wasn’t stressed by the process. ---

My take is that you’re using the dog as prop for a humorous prank. Is that what you think pets are for? I don’t. ---

A creature’s got to have a pretty broad sense of humor, for instance, to think it’s funny to take the new digicam out in the back yard and chew it up. Problem is, the only white on my Boxer is his chest blaze, and it’s pink around the edges already. Hmm. We have an orca kitty. But no, she doesn’t really have a sense of humor. ---

This reminds me of an old Fire Department story that happened decades ago. The guys involved are long retired, but it was supposed to have happened at the Station located at LA International Airport. As you know, fire fighters have shifts that keep them at the station house for days, and they’re active guys, so they like to keep busy. Also, there are jackrabbits living out between the landing strips at LAX. On one quiet day, some of the guys decided that it would be a good joke to catch some of the rabbits and dye them red, just to mess with the pilots. They pictured the pilots seeing red rabbits popping away out of the corner of their eyes and not knowing whether to believe that they’d really seen that. Things went well in the beginning. The rabbits were bagged and a big pot of red dye was mixed up. The first rabbit wrangler got a good grip on his bunny and lowered it into the liquid. Then the fleas on the rabbit abandoned ship and crawled in a mass up the poor guys arms. He was startled enough to loose his grip on the rabbit, which ran in lightning circles around the station, spattering red dye over everything as it looked for a way out. The rest of the rabbits were released undyed. No reports of the single red rabbit ever filtered back to them. It wasn’t a total loss, though. They now had lots to do to keep them busy for awhile. There was enough grousing that I suspect they might not have used food coloring. ---

Albino guinea pigs and water-based “magic markers” make for some fun times. The guinea pigs really don’t care as long as they get to munch on lettuce during their grooming. Lasts quite a while, too. ---

We have a cat flap! Nuff said. Anyway, that’s not the orca kitty. Lately I attribute most of the hunting pranks to our grey yearling, Ansel. (My wife vetoed the name “Zone V.”) Ansel has an excellent sense of humor, but I don’t think dying a grey kitty would be very effective. I’d probably get some shade of brown. ---

I once tried to paint the roommates cat with dayglo paint (friend & I were under the influence of a certain psychedelic chemical). She wasn’t exactly happy about it, but it’s something that we laugh about now. ---
