I played “one million questions” on a really long car ride. asked hundreds of unrelated random questions. “whats your favorite muppet” “whats your favorite kind of pie” “what is the uglyest cat you have ever seen” “what size hat do you wear” … it was a game that went on for about 2 hours. 99% of the questions were nonsense… but that was the point… it let me slip in a few I wished to know for a few surpises and I had asked so many, it wasn’t like asking was being suspicious. I got so many little helpful facts… plus got to find out my girlfreind’s favorite kind of quince ---

But I’ll throw my idea anyhow… Go to a mall that has both a movie theater and a jewelery store (aside: don’t actually buy a ring from a mall jeweler)… Scope out the mall before hand and find the most reputable jeweler there… Take her out to a movie… on the way out of the movie say something to the effect of, “would you mind a brief stop, I’m thinking about buying a new watch… can we stop in here?” While you’re looking at various watches, point out that a ring would look really nice on her, “would you mind if she tried it on?”… most jewelers will happily put the ring on her finger in hopes that you buy it… go back to looking for watches after admiring the ring on her hand (and the size marked on the tag)… You can kind of judge from that or you can be even sleazier and talk to the jeweler before hand, let him/her know what you’re doing, and have the sales-person assess the proper size for the ring… (I wasn’t that sleazy, but I’d still respect it 😉 ---

Well, the guy whose website I’m buying the ring from says he can resize it (for free no less), but not too much, which is perfectly understandable. I don’t want to give her a ring that says, “I love you, LA.” Of course, I’d still like to get it right the first time. I’ve decided to give her the ring later on (ie, not this Tuesday), and wait til she leaves for San Diego in a month or two. Gives me a little breathing room. Thanks for the help, and keep it coming. Idea: Ever heard of that stuff called “Memory Gel”? You whip it up in a container with some water, then after it sets for a bit, you stick your “Body Part of Choice” in the mixture, remove it, then fill with plaster of paris, to make a permanent mold of said object. Tell your gal that you thought it would be cool to make molds of both your hands (It’s really quite fun, just a little messy, and only takes up about 2 hours of your day, at most) Ive done this with a few friends in the past, and had a lot of fun doing it. Find a way to keep her hand there with you, send yours home with her - then Voila’ - the perfect way to size her finger, without her catching on 🙂 I’m sure she’ll be thrilled - however you choose to go about it. My boyfriend let several of my girlfriends know what was up. I went shopping with one of them, ostensibley for her to try on the ring her fiancee was buying for her, and in the jewelry store she said “Oh, let’s get you sized.” She’s prone to random outbursts and odd behavior so I thought nothing of it and went along with the program with minimal protest. She also asked the jeweler to size several of my fingers so I wasn’t exactly expecting anything. Of course, this will only work if you A. know her friends pretty well and B. they can be trusted to do it casually. BTW, Zebra, excellent idea, I’m going to get just such a card from my boyfriend, I shop for him all the time and can never remember his size… now I’ll be able to check without letting him know what I’m getting.
