So it turns out Smokey is probably a girl. She is making some progress. She’ll sit and let my wife pet her…on my wife’s keyboard. ---

The blanket is a good idea. My cats love those super soft microfiber blankets. When I use one it is guaranteed to attract most of the cats in the house who all have to make biscuits on it. ---

Could you get a small towel or washcloth that has the scent of the kittens mother on it? And keep it on your wife’s lap. At six weeks old the kitten probably still fondly remembers Mama Kitty.
