How do I install an outdoor faucet?

Agree with several above on the use of PEX compression fittings. Get copper to PEX adaptor (tee or straight) and do the rest of your plumbing in PEX. Terminate your PEX run with a threaded connector, and thread the faucet on. Really easy.
Two things I’d do to eliminate any risk of problems - spend the extra cash and buy a quality copper pipe tube cutter. This is a little wheeled blade device that you clamp on the copper pipe and run it around in circles. Makes a nice clean, square cut. Secondly buy the proper PEX pipe cutting tool. These are just shears that cut the PEX square without deformity it from round. Both tools $10 or so.
And also get some fine grit sandpaper and give the copper a nice smooth down on the outside before fitting the compression fitting.
This stuff meets also our codes locally, which are super strict. They only reason every plumber doesn’t use it regularly inside homes is that it’s expensive compared to traditional methods.
Sharkbite is the market leader in PEX

I just want to note that the same Sharkbite fittings work for pex-to-pex, copper-to-copper and copper-to-pex. If the OP provided a picture we could probably put together a fairly complete parts list.

Just do it right and sweat the pipe like your supposed to. Anything else will not provide a reliable joint.

Yup. Real men know how to sweat pipes.
