It’s always been a big hassle in summer, when I’m often wearing swim trunks as my preferred short pants—so no belt—and a pocketless polo shirt. But last Sunday, in the checkout line at Aldi, I spotted plastic folding readers. Two pair for $4, and each comes with a soft case (about 1.5 x 2.5 inches) that drops nicely into my change pocket. ---

Never brought them with me anywhere. You (at least I) have to keep my head perfectly level. Tilting my head down just a little, for example to read a menu, results in them sliding off. They’re really annoying. I usually just ask my girlfriend to keep a pair of my glasses in her purse when we’re out and keep a pair in my car for when I might need them ---

I wear bifocals and carry them on my face. ---

Australia’s Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, seems to use them as a baton during speeches. I am a reading glasses newbie: I don’t have a place to keep them, and so I am always losing them. ---

I leave them in their case beside the bed and read the damn menu at arm’s length. I _hate_ having to use them at all. Sunglasses get tucked into my shirt at the neck. Most of my shirts have a pocket, so that’s where my reading glasses go. Often my phone, too, because I can’t always hear it ringing in my pants pocket. If I don’t have a shirt pocket, the phone goes in my pants pocket and the glasses get hung from my collar. ---

I leave mine in my briefcase at work, and then–when I need to read something like a menu in a dark restaurant–I ask my wife to tell me what looks good. ---

As someone who almost made it to half a century with better than 20/20 vision I have to say that having reading glasses is damn inconvenient. Generally I either carry them into work in my hand or carry them back home and I never have them any other time. If I need to read a menu I turn on the flashlight on my camera. Usually its the low light that does me in. If needed my phone magnifies. Ball status given upon request. ---

I carry mine in my purse. Not sure why people insist on calling it a murse or man-purse; purse is a non-gender-specific term. ---

In my entire adult life I’ve only used a glass case once, when I recently went on a 100 mile hiking trip in England, where we carried a day pack and a company transported one piece of luggage for us and I chose a larger backpack. Being soft, I put my glasses in their glasses case for use after the hike/run. But every other time, I’ve either worn them or kept them in my glove compartment or bedside table.
