Consistently? Oh, there was some criticism of the Beatles from Christian sources, just as there was some criticism of all of rock and roll from those same sources, but, as I remember it, there certainly wasn’t consistent criticism. There was the usual criticism from the usual people who loved to shoot off their big mouths about any current trend that was simultaneously very popular in some circles and very unpopular in other circles. There was always in the 1950’s and 1960’s a certain amount of hatred of rock and roll from people who just didn’t like the fact that a new type of music they didn’t grow up with was popular. Some Christian leaders condemned rock and roll for various reasons, but my memory is that this was a distinct minority of Christian leaders. Most of them just ignored it with the feeling that this was just those crazy kids listening to their crazy music.
