As mightily entertained as I am by stuff like “Spider-Man has made you gay” and “When come back bring pie” I always feel like I’m the last person to know. How do you people find these sites? Obviously many people are like me, finding them through links in email or message boards, but where and how do the people who start these juggernauts rolling find them? ---

I knew exactly what this thread was going to be about before I opened it. If I didn’t know better, I’d ask if you were my husband. He asks me the same question every time a share a weird link that I get here. And I’ve often wondered the same thing. Is it random surfing or friend of a friend or 1000 monkeys pounding on 1000 keyboards or what?? It’s yet another reason I love this place! ---

I don’t know what’s weirder about Spiderman Will Make You Gay - the fact that it exists, or that somebody bought a domain just for it. (The first time I saw it, it had some URL that was something like www .members.dhb.uiaon.com/someguy/someotherguy/funnystuff/spiderman.html) ---

I’m guessing that whoever actually makes the joke tells everyone they can think of, and it spreads from there… I know if _I_ made something as cool as the gay spiderman, I’d want to tell everyone (“Mom, Dad, check out this website…”) ---

For less Gay-Spidermaness and more with the random-web-links you can go to portal sites. The chief offenders are [Fark](http://www.farm.com/) and [Portal of Evil](http://www.portalofevil/). I suppose would could also email links to your friends and hope they recipocate \ ---

And then there are the things that come from search engines. For example, yesterday, a coworker said she smelled popcorn, and another said (as a joke) it was just his new cologne. “Surely,” I said to myself “no one would ever make such a thing.” One quick trip to Google, and [this](http://www.fashion-planet.com/shopping/demeter/scents.html) pops up. Ok, popcorn, cappuccino, and cranberry I can sort of understand. But “Dirt”?? “Funeral Home”?!? “Turpentine”!?!?!? I just don’t get it. ---
