> I’m not sure if you’re serious about this, but in case you or another reader is: What’s easy to forget is that there’s no atmosphere on the moon, and the only dust thrown up by the launch would be the particles directly hit by exhaust particles. There’s no swirl of air that would raise a big dust cloud like on earth.

Actually, there is a possibility of a [process](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_soil#Moon_dust_fountains_and_electrostatic_levitation) that kicks up the dust on the moon via our friend ionization.

It was 10" condoms labeled ‘extra-small’, wasn’t it? Or maybe I’m mis-remembering …

Oh Christ, not this. Please see Mythbusters for the answer.

Mythbusters are part of the conspiracy; Jamie Hyneman once did an internship at nasa.

But seriously, hasn’t this CT died? If you google “moon conspiracy” you get about 10 debunks per (not updated) denier site.

The flag was waving because the flag pole was inserted into the lunar surface using a twisting motion, back and forth, back and forth. The top of the flag was supported by a wire. There is no atmosphere to dampen the motion, so after the hand was removed the flag continued to follow the previously applied twisting inertia.

Simple really.

I recall the Apollo 11 flag “waving” when struck by dust, and eventually falling over.

On second thought, the change in camera angle as the LEM lifted off may have made it appear to fall.
