How do you fit exercise into your schedule

I naturally get up really early (usually by 5) so try to do a workout right when I get up, so I can shower right afterwords and am off for the day. Sometimes, I’ll also do some workouts when I’m watching TV at night after dinner. This is all free weights and basic cardio, so I’m not dependent on apparatus so much…

I run about 4-5 times a week, usually after work. If I have a long day, I’ll split my work stuff and run in the afternoon. Sometimes I go to the gym before I run, lifting weights usually. I just got a new road bike so I might try to schedule my run days for 4 days/week and bike/gym the other three. Usually it’s no more than an hour and a half a day though.

I have 2 beagles who are spoiled rotten and get a 2 or 3 mile walk in the park every day. They will not allow me to blow it off. They are bouncing, nudging and poking at walk time.
I also play 12 to 15 hours or racketball every week.

My goal is to do an hour of weightlifting three times a week and 45 minutes of cardio (running and abs) three other days. I give myself a pass when I have too many projects going on but they tend to be physical (I split my own firewood through all of August, September and part of October this year and I’m also finishing up a kitchen remodel project). In fact, my best workout ever was three months of building a treehouse six years ago.

I also walk between 1 and 6 dogs a mile every day unless it’s really, really bad outside.

I find if I take more than three days off in a row from exercise or strenuous physical activity, I can’t sleep, so there’s my incentive. Plus after three years of dedication I have a physique.

I’m lucky because I work 3-11 so I have mornings to do it. Also because I got a complete home gym (Weider Pro 9648; weight bench with all sorts of weights >300 lb.; treadmill; and elliptical) for a grand total of about $275. I picked it up piece by piece on Craig’s List. If you have the space and not much money, it’s a great way to give yourself the incentive to work out regularly – all that stuff staring you in the face every day.
