Phone, a lot of it using Google voice. Some laptop. But mostly phone, even for some of my large, 1000+ word OP’s. ---

Almost always on the phone. I barely browse on a laptop and haven’t had a desktop for over 20 years. About the only thing I use the laptop for apart from work is watching movies on the big curved display. ---

I use my desktop PC for everything. I’ve only recently turned the internet on for my phone plan, and that’s only because some crucial apps demand it and I can’t get around it anymore. I doubt I’ll be social media-ing much on it, I find the tiny screen and crappy keyboard a chore. ---

Usually my phone, although sometimes with my laptop. I really should use the laptop because I’m not careful enough on the phone. ---

Tablet for reading and brief responses. Desktop for longer and more nuanced thoughts. A desktop keyboard is second nature for me so I only have to think about what I’m trying to convey. ---

Oooh, I forgot that I once posted from Afghanistan, by mailing in a 3x5" card, stapled to the horn of a a Himalayan Tahr, all neatly wrapped in a Persian Rug and furthermore wrapped in foil-green birthday wrapping paper with a blue bow, addressed to Box 3500 Harvard Square, Cambridge Mass . . .our Fair City. . . 02238. Tripler I think that post got lost in the “Winter of our Missed Content.” ---

100% laptop, though it has an external monitor (decent size) and wireless keyboard and mouse. It is great since when I travel (remember that) I lose nothing except a decent sized monitor. I pack my keyboard, since I hate the touchpad which I can’t turn off on my laptop. ---

So you really just use your laptop as a CPU and HDD? Seems to me there must be a slimline PC box that ought to be made for this kind of thing. It could even be way smaller. Anybody tapping that market? ---

I know. There was a ‘book’ style in the 1980’s, and another attempt was made with network hardware in the 00’s, but it never found a mass market. What’s happening now is the Stick Computers (USB powered, looks like a very large USB thumb drive), mini-pc like the Intel NUC (small cube shape), all-in-one monitors (computer is a lump on the back), and small fanless desktops that are still much larger than a laptop. I really like the ‘book’ format, but for whatever reason the ‘cube’ format is what is more common. Maybe people want a computer that screams ‘look at me’ instead of a computer that you can stack on a shelf or slip in a briefcase. ---

Laptop. I haven’t owned a desktop computer in many years. As a freelancer, I needed to take my computer to clients’ offices. I also post from my kindle. ---

100% desktop. Trying to browse the Dope on a phone browser is just clunky and unnatural. ---

If I had set up the poll, I doubt if I would have made “desktop” and “laptop” separate options. It seems to me that the experience of posting to the SDMB from one or the other isn’t all that different from each other—especially if the laptop has a separate (USB or bluetooth) keyboard ---

This… My laptop IS my desktop computer. Hardwired to router and two external monitors. That would be a lot to put on my lap. ---

Mostly desktop. Second most is the tablet, but not all that often. I don’t think I’ve ever used my phone for the Dope and I no longer have a laptop. ---
