# How do you prefer your Coke Floats?

This thread has me wondering…what were the kids in the 50s drinking/eating at the soda fountains? Movies and tv shows mention ice cream sodas. Were they soda water and ice cream or were they floats like we’re talking about here?

“Other” - The only civilized float is a Root Beer Float, thick enough so that you can barely suck it through a large straw.

Neither. A proper soda has syrup (usually chocolate) on the bottom, then 1-2 scoops of ice cream (usually vanilla) and seltzer or pop poured over it to make it fizzy. Topped with whipped cream and optional cherry.

I don’t consider a float thirst-quenching. I often need a glass of water after drinking one.
