I say dakshund, the most common pronunciation in Britain but first heard of them as “dashhounds”, I have a suspicion that pronunciation came into vogue during either WWI or II, as a result of anti German prejudice, like German Shepherds becoming Alsatians. ---

Dox-und. I’m American. Prior to this thread, if I had heard someone say “dash-hound” and there wasn’t context readily available, such as them pointing at a nearby wiener dog, I would have had no idea what they were talking about. I have never heard that pronunciation before. ---

Aussie who’s lived in UK and NZ, always heard it as Dash-hund. Funny that I spent 2 years in Germany and have no clue how it was pronounced there. ---
