This story is so bizarre. My family lives on the same street as the Sachs and Evan was in my sister’s graduating class. We drove him home a few times. I walked my dog past his house yesterday.
Also, the dad didn’t walk up to the stabbing in progress. The boy was stabbed and he then walked over to his father and collapsed. It was then that the father and a witness saw Evan entering the restroom and apprehended him.
This is why I am so glad that I am not a single parent. Hopefully, both of us would be around so one of us could take care of the mite and the other one could kick the living crap out of the attacker.
If I were alone, I would get the guy off my kid and then take care of the little one best I could. The guy would probably get away.
This seems like a no-brainer. Eliminate the threat before providing aid to the wounded kid. You’re doing him/her no good if you yourself are getting stabbed in the back while rendering first aid.
Plus, seriously… rage becomes a factor. Some of us are more prone than others, but from myy own perspective I can say that I’m usually a fairly peaceful guy. Until I hit my pissed-off point. Hurting a kid (mine or someone else’s - I haven’t got any) will definitely do the trick, and scrawny white-boy wrath will ensue.
I’d fire some warning shots first. My first two warning shots are aimed center of mass. If that don’t warn them I fire warning shots at their head until they are warned enough that I am no longer in fear for my life.

LOL. That’s an interesting definition of “warning shot”.
I’m glad the kid survived.
I think most people would defend a kid being attacked even if the kid is not related to them. At least I THINK most people would. I’ve seen shows/movies where people slam their doors shut or close their windows when someone is being attacked but I don’t know if that really happens in real life or whether a large number of people would do that.
I am a coward who hates dogs. I once got physically violent with a crazy homeless guy who was slapping a little dog whose owner had left it tied up outside a store while she shopped.
I love kids, and sometimes I miss my son so much it feels like a physical ache.
I’d have intervened out of pure, reckless, stupid rage. One of us would have ended dead. Hopefully the wacko hurting the kid.
I don’t mean that as a boast. My temper is not something I think is good.
