How do you test your religion?

I’m surprised no-one has corrected/filled in my reccolection of the lord’s prayer.

(Actually I was hoping someone would, so I could see exactly how much of it I had remembered off the top of my head)

Sorry Lobsang, you’ll have to Google that one yourself.

I was under the impression that Kabbalah was not considered blasphemous and had a long tradition in the Jewish faith.

Thanks for the post Tygr. I’m sure most people don’t really have the time to be a full time “faith investigator” even when they have the inclination. I am surprised my OP didn’t trigger a vanity search hit & response from one who does seem to devote the time.

Hopefully we’ll get a response from at least one vigorous religious dude, assuming they’re not all on hilltops or in monestaries.

I grew up as a Roman Catholic and had pretty strong faith. I always had an interest in religion and history and considered becoming a priest for a while in high school. However one of the gifts that God gave me was an analytical mind which is constantly questioning. The more I read and educate myself about religion and history, the more my faith in organized religion diminishes. I no longer go to church on a regular basis, I still believe in the existance of God, however I have a low tolerance now for the follies of organized religions that still practice certain traditions as canon because some crazy monk or religious leader in 500 AD decided that is how it is going to be. Its one thing to pull dogma from the bible, which in and of itself is fallable because it has been translated so many times, and much of it began as oral tradition (especially the old testament), but quite another to support things like celibacy of priests which doesn’t have an origin from the bible.
This becomes more annoying because my brother, sister, and mom don’t seem to question their faith at all and think that the Catholic Church is the best thing since sliced bread. I could be wrong, maybe they do question it, but I find it doubtful since my sister’s only 21st birthday wish is that the whole family go to church together on that evening. Don’t most people in the USA want to celibrate the fact that they can now go drink in bars legally? :smack:
