How do you wake up?

old cellphone.

I feel like I’ve seen this thread before. Uncanny

Digital alarm clock unless I’m on the road. In that case I have an ancient wind-up Big Ben that works perfectly, wakes me every time, and refuses to die. My Dad used it from the 50s until 2001 when it became mine.

The blind dog pokes his cold nose in my back.

Never heard it called a Blind Dog before.

Normally and at home my cat. When it is mission critical Alexa (on battery backup), When I am away from home and mission critical Siri sets an alarm. When away and don’t have a specific time, body clock or the sun, or other people making noise.

the cat. My alarm starts going off at 5:30, but he’s usually waking me up around 5:15 - I think that’s when I have the coffee set to start brewing, and he knows it’s almost time for me to get up and feed him then.

We have a dog, who will always wake us up around 6:10. We alternate getting up with him while the other stays in bed. On workdays the other will get up at 6:40 and really I don’t need an alarm for that.

I set my digital alarm for 5:45 and usually wake up before that due to my internal alarm, and the cat making noise. So I chose other.

I really love that there are so many people who are woken up by their cats.

What would we do with out furry little alarm clocks?

Probably sleep longer I guess.

I have never used any sort of alarm but looking back I think I would have slept better had I used an alarm. I have been retired for 5 years now and still wake up about 4 am every morning but I tend to sleep better not worrying about it. Unless I am going through some bout of insomnia which usually last a few weeks.

I have a tablet that plays a song with slowly increasing volume. The volume is set to increase to max over a 10 minute period.

Mine plays a rooster crowing, slowly increasing in volume.

I like alternative alarm sounds with gradually increasing volume, they are not as jarring as BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!!

I usually have an alarm on my phone set, “just in case”, but wake up before it almost every day, even my days off, when I don’t set an alarm.

Until last week, I that almost wouldn’t have been in the above sentence. Last Saturday I needed to be up at 7am. Since I usually have my alarm set for 5am during the week and I’m up by 4:30, I figured I didn’t have to set an alarm. I can’t even remember the last time I slept past 5:30.
I went to bed at my normal time and was shocked when my eyes opened and the bedroom was full of light, (it was 7:30). While it wasn’t the end of the world and I wasn’t in trouble, it still bugged the living daylights out of me that I slept so late. I get plenty of sleep and rarely wake up feeling like I need more sleep. I spent most of the day berating myself for oversleeping.

State: grumpy

Method: clock radio when home, cell when traveling (because I, with good reason, don’t trust hotel alarm clocks or wake up calls).

I generally wake up well before I need to. Fucking insomnia.

I use a clock radio for backup, but its function is almost always to remind me to get off the computer and start getting ready for the day.
