How do you want the next Doctor to be?

John DeLancie… “Temper, temper mon Dalek”, and with “Q” powers he wouldn’t have to rely on the sonic screwdriver as much

William Shatner  I…am…the doctor…have you…thought…about Priceline?
What does “god” need with a TARDIS?

Adam Baldwin… Cunning hats are cool

I also agree with Richard Ayoade with a Maurice Moss personality

A duck!

One interesting name I’ve heard tossed about is Damian Lewis (Homeland, Band of Brothers). He’s older (42) without being grandfatherly. Best of all, he’s a fine actor and I can’t see him him playing the character as manic as the last two did. Best of all, the Doctor would finally get to be ginger:
*
“Legs, I’ve still got legs, good. Arms, hands, ooh, fingers, lots of fingers. Ears, yes, eyes too. Nose, I’ve had worse. Chin, blimey. Hair… I’m a girl! No, no! I’m not a girl. I’m still not ginger. There’s something else, there’s something important. I’m, I’m, I’m… Ha! Crashing! Haha! woohoohoo! Ah! Geronimo!”* (Eleven’s first lines.)

Griffiths would have been perfect as The Doctor.

This is what I wrote in response to the similar article on io9 (What We Want From Doctor Who's Next Doctor):

I want to see a mature Doctor. Not mature as in old, but as in having a strong balanced sense of self. Positive without being foolish, smart without being arrogant, gravitas without pathos, authentic and genuine, idealistic and optimistic without losing pragmatism. Having a lot of presence without being intimidating or showy. A mentor figure. Strong, balanced, and kind. Someone like Chiwetel could pull it off. For a woman, I’m imagining a younger version of Patricia Clarkson (The red headed aunt on Six Feet Under).

I’d really rather see a compassionate doctor, who tries to rehabilitate villains, by coming to a deep understanding of them, than an angry doctor who tries to destroy them. The very name “doctor” implies a healer, not a soldier.

Stephen Fry, with Hugh Laurie as his companion.

Tony Robinson, with Rowan Atkinson as his companion?

Alan Rickman, with Bruce Willis as his companion.

A thousand times this.

Physically older but younger acting, just as Matt Smith is physically young but acts like an old man (except for the slaptstickish hyper energy). And older man who wants to jump around manically like Smith but has to learn to adjust would be cool.

Another “My ideal next doctor would be Stephen Fry” vote. However, if they decided to go with the first non-white actor I like Eamon Walker. He has great presence and dignity when playing drama but judging by his flamingly gay nurse on In Sickness and in Health he’s also good at comedy, plus in his early 50s he’s old enough to be significantly older than Smith and Tennant but young enough for action (certainly more than Stephen Fry can). Gender is more material- I think even a Time Lord would remain male, BUT, if they went with non-male then they may as well go full on Orlando and get Tilda Swinton.

Or, Bryan Cranston as the first American Doctor with Aaron Paul as Breaking Bad’s Jesse as his companion. They travel in TARDIS-B (“Time And Relative Dimension In Space, Bitch!”)
