Southern fried. Mashed. On the cob (lightly boiled with a splash of milk) French vanilla ice cream floating in Coca-Cola. Chateau Petrus Pomerol 1959 to make you pay for making me want it when there’s no serious fried chicken in my entire province. I keep reading Americans threaten to move to Canada, some must be from the South. Waiting. Hoping. ---

Garçon! My order: Chicken: Fried in peanut oil, extra-crispy, smothered in giblet gravy. Potato: Baked (slathered with oil and salt and baked till the skin is thick and crispy), smothered in butter, sour cream, chives and giblet gravy. Corn: On-the-cob, sweet-white, smothered in butter, salt 'n pepper. Healthy green vegetable: You can put a lima bean or two on my plate; I may or may not eat them (smother them in butter and salt and I probably will). Dessert: French apple pie (please make it with a flaky lard crust and plump raisins), a la mode (real vanilla ice cream, made with cream, not agar, thank you), smothered in fresh whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Beverage: Merlot (please keep my glass topped). After-dinner apéritif: Sublingual nitroglycerin chased with a shot of vodka. ---

I’ll have a chicken thigh fillet, as per a chicken parma please. Just a slice of smoked ham, a drizzle of pessata and some emmenthal cheese on top, grilled until brown. Fried potatoes, grilled corn, are you serving green beans? I love me some green beans! Apple pie with vanilla ice-cream sounds grouse. Oh, do you deliver downunder? ☹ ---
