How does a single person scratch her own back?

I like the way you all thinking. Keep it coming. SurrenderDorothy: any ideas about how to aim so the bandages stick to the correct spots?

And about my parents–I consider my relationship with them to be positive, but not deep. There’s an awful lot of stuff we don’t know about each other, and we’re happy that way. As far as asking them to do this kind of thing for me–sometime around the time I got the first college degree, I stopped being their baby and started being an adult of whom they are very fond. I can’t ask them to do this, really. And it’s just as much about spending a week in their house as it is about the bandages.

How far apart are the wounds? Maybe you could use an extra large gauze pad so the position wouldn’t have to be too exact, but the tape wouldn’t run into another wound?
I should probably reconsider this whole old maid thing.

When I had the same thing done (a mole on the part of my back that’s hard for me to reach) my mom helped me sometimes, but I kind of learned to get to it myself. I could juuuustt barely reach it with the ointment, and I figured out that I could take one half of the adhesive paper thing off the Band-Aid, stick it above the wound, then scrabble around and get the second half off and get it down with my very fingertips or a tool. It’s possible, if barely.

Well, I thought your “pervs will do it for free” was pretty funny, if a person was willing to change a bandage on one’s back for sexual pleasure… Maybe I just have a sick sence of humor…

Much like Zsofia, when I had the same done to a mole on my back, I was able to do it myself – with quite a bit of contorting and looking in the mirror. An annoying hassle, but doable.

But you really do want to carefully follow the regimen your doctor tells you to. My doc mentioned that scarring was much more likely on the back. I was pretty careful following the routine, and didn’t have a problem. One of my co-workers was a bit more lax, and says he has a hard little scar there, now. (which is why he stopped going back to the doc to be checked out; sort of two stupid decisions for the price of one…)

I’ve never tried this, so I don’t know how well it would work, but…maybe use one of the above mentioned lotion applicators for applying your antibiotic, then some longish tongs for bandage positioning, and then, using the other hand, the lotion applicator to secure the bandage in place? (This is assuming you’re using a self-adhesive bandage). Might be clunky and awkward, but if you don’t have any other options, it could be worth a try.
