HOW does Apple Keep a Secret?

Believe it or not I was speaking from experience. I bought a nano earlier this year and haven’t been able to find it for at least two months. I’ve been anguishing over whether or not to get a new one for a few weeks now and I guess now that the 8 gig is out, I know what to do.

Somewhere, Steven Jobs leans back in his chair and rubs his hands together.

And within a week of buying your new one, your old one will turn up in some place obvious, like on top of the coffee table, even though it wasn’t there 10 minutes before. (Damned iPod-gnomes.)

They definitely compartmentalize the information. My RPG group includes two Apple employees: one iPod engineer (that’d be my spouse) and one high-level hardware engineer on the Macintosh side. They can’t even talk to each other about what they’re doing, because they’re not allowed to share. The spouse finds out about new Mac stuff when it’s announced, and ditto for the Mac engineer re: iPods. Me, I don’t get to know nothin’ about either one until they’re announced.
