How Does Pouring Salt on an Ice Cube Affect the Skin?

So the moral of the story is not to let people play stupid tricks on your body without demonstrating it on themselves first; I mention this because a friend of mine was very badly burned on the back of the hand once; someone in a pub offered him a £20 note, the condition attached was that he would have to hold the note against the back of his hand and let the trickster burn through it with a cigarette.
Trouble is that the skin absorbs the heat straight through the paper, which consequently never gets hot enough to burn through.
