Just saw RIPD. Reynolds didn’t act poorly. He didn’t act at all.

From realizing you’re dead to getting up after a car flattened you to sleeping… same facial expression…

Did the director forget to tell him that when he’s alone in a scene, he’s no longer the straight man to his overacting partner and he’s allowed to emote?

Either he is plagued by horrible writers, or he really needs to be told to never ever ad lib.

You must be having memory problems. Ryan Reynolds was the best thing about Blade Trinity.

He is and Patton Oswalt is good in it as well. If you didn’t know this, Patton Oswalt has written about how Wesley Snipes ruined the movie.

[You can read about it here.](http://www.avclub.com/articles/patton-oswalt-on-his-most-memorable-roles-and-givi,88860/)

Highlight regarding Ryan Reynolds: “A lot of the lines that Ryan Reynolds has were just a result of Wesley not being there. We would all just think of things for him to say and then cut to Wesley’s face not doing anything because that’s all we could get from him. It was kind of funny. We were like, “What are the worst jokes and puns that we can say to this guy?” And then it would just be his face going, “Mmm.” “Smiles are contagious.” It’s so, so dumb. [Laughs.] That was an example of a very troubled shoot that we made fun. You have to find a way to make it fun.”

Snopes was stoned for a lot of the movie. You can tell.

Ditto.

I liked _Buried_ and _Just Friends_, and I’m curious what he would’ve done with Deadpool before they transformed him.

I’d say he doesn’t really have extensive chops. He’s likable, and falls back on some amiable tricks to get by, but I think part of it is simply bad choices and bad luck. It’ll be interesting to see how his career develops as he fills out and gains weight, but I think the sarcastic quipster of _Van Wilder_ and _Waiting_ gets a little old (he’s OK in \*
Adventureland\* but doesn’t do as much as that role could’ve really used), so it’ll be nice to see him in more sober, dramatic, challenging films.

Yeah, let’s talk about Adventureland. That should have come up before post 44.

He’s good. The role is that of a cool, good looking stud. But over the course of the film, it is revealed that he’s a phony - his character is a pathetic, co-dependant douche who gets by on his looks and proto-hipster veneer. Maybe he wasn’t acting.

I respectfully disagree.

It wasn’t all on him to be fair, but he has a habit of playing each role as a complete dick. His Hal Jordan was such an unlikeable person that you end up rooting for the parallax

You know, actor named Ryan, Canadian, thirtyish, dated Blake Lively at one point, youngest child in the family, acting career started while a teenager. Isn’t that true of all actors these days?

Leo DiCaprio: The guy who takes dodgy protagonists like Howard Hughes and J. Edgar Hoover and makes you root for them without backpedaling on the stuff that made them dodgy.

Ryan Reynolds: The guy whose eyebrows don’t look anything _but_ plucked.

Having read _Green Lantern_ comics… that’s actually a dead-on characterization of Hal Jordan from the comics. I always end up rooting for whomever might have a chance of kicking Hal’s egocentric ass.

Go, Parallax!

No. None of the major GLs have been alcoholics. Guy Gardner is (usually) a dickhole, but he does that perfectly sober. Current portrayal of early Hal is generally an egotistical, unthinking hothead - the movie got that exactly right. But that’s because he’s a young doofus, not a drunk.

One of Alan Scott’s teammates, Hourman, has been portrayed as a drug addict (addicted to Miraclo, which is also the source of his powers), which is kind of inevitable for someone who gets their powers from drugs.

Green **Arrow** ’s sidekick, Speedy (AKA Arsenal, AKA Red Arrow), is quite famously a heroin addict (apparently an alcoholic now - not sure if that replaces the heroin in his history, or if he’s just an overall addictive personality).

So far as I know, the only alcoholic Justice League member was Major Disaster, which came up when he was with the JLElite.
