About 40 miles N to the Wisconsin border (driving)
About 35 miles E to the Illinois/Michigan border in Lake Michigan (as the crow flies)
About 30 miles SE to the Indiana border (driving)

For those who have enjoyed the trivia aspect of this thread there’s more fun to be had at [The Degree Confluence Project](http://www.confluence.org/) and (more specifically) [United States (visit information)](http://www.confluence.org/country.php?id=1) for USA Dopers, where you can zoom in on your own state for places where the longitude and latitude are both at integer degrees (no minutes and seconds). In fact their mission statement is

> [@](#):

> The goal of the project is to visit each of the latitude and longitude integer degree intersections in the world, and to take pictures at each location. The pictures, and stories about the visits, will then be posted here.

There’s an older SDMB thread where we have played around with such things at [Some Geography Trivia Fun: Degree Confluences.](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=554045)

I’m in Scotland, the border with England is about 80 miles south of here.

I can’t drive directly to a foreign country. The nearest is the Republic of Ireland: two hours by car to Stranraer, two hours by ferry to Belfast, and another, what, hour or so to the border?

At most. 45 minutes would probably do it. Didn’t realise the crossing was 2hrs. Had it in my head it was shorter up there.
