Bush essentially gutted FEMA, heading it with a succession of hacks who didn’t believe themselves that the program should exist. The result? A government agency completely incapable of dealing with a major disaster like Katrina, and a massive failure. Then a democratic president and congress came in, fixed it up, and we were _ready_ when Sandy hit. Seriously, the idea that government can’t do anything only seems to be true when republicans, people who build a lot of their political philosophy on that very idea, are in charge. And this is why it’s a _really bad idea to vote for people who hold that view_. Governments across the world are capable of doing countless things right, and many things better than any other source. Is there some black guy in the Heritage Foundation we should know about? Because IT’S THEIR PLAN that Obama adopted. Anyone thinking that PPACA is “socialism” by any measure rather than a Republican plan loaded with further Republican amendments is not living in a world where words have actual meanings as opposed to meaning whatever you want them to. ---
