**The Republican:** I still don’t think you understand how this place works. You don’t just post opinions, and then reluctantly cough up cites if people demand them. When you start a discussion, it is expected that you will present a well-formed argument, WITH cites from respected sources to back up any factual assertions you make. I hope you stick around - this place has the smartest, toughest debaters on the internet. If you want to hone your political opinions, this is the place to do it. But be warned - stuff that might sound good on a blog will get hacked to pieces here if you don’t do your homework and make sure your arguments are rock solid. That doesn’t mean this place is the fountain of truth - there are a lot of heavy partisans here, mostly on the left. I agree with you as to what happened in the 2000 election, and I agree with you that Bush is at least as smart as Gore, yet neither of those positions are ‘accepted wisdom’ around here. But that said, the guys that survive on this board (on both the left and right) are about the sharpest people you’re likely to find on the net. So it’s a highly valuable resource. Just don’t post half-thought-out opinions, or simply repeat something you read on a blog, or uncritically regurgitate something from a known spinner like Ann Coulter. You might as well just coat yourself in barbecue sauce and crawl into a tiger cage. ---
