[QUOTE=Freudian Push Up Bra]
I’ve got the European spelling of a common name: I’m Stefanie, not Stephanie.

Well, if you told me it’s spelled like the first name of [Stefanie Powers](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0694619/), I’d know what you meant. Incidentally, there’s an actress named [Stepfanie.](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0469671/)

My last name is fairly common in northern Slavic countries. It begins with a
_K_. I’ve often been asked if I spell it with a _C_ or a _K_. _I have never seen the name spelled with a C, but obviously plenty of people have (or at least think the name should begin with C)_.

My surname also happens to be kind of similar to a common Hungarian last name. My dad and mom happened to be members of a club which also featured a couple named Steve and Terri, who bore the Hungarian surname. People often asked Dad how Terri was doing, or my mom where her husband Steve was. _And this was in the Cleveland (OH) area, where plenty of Eastern Europeans settled._

Also, the suburb in which I lived for most of my life is North Olmsted, but 99% of non-Clevelanders apparently assumed my address labels were defective, as I constantly got mail addressed to North Olmstead even after correcting correspondents. Even the official USPS directory at the North Olmsted post office referred to the city as North Olmstead – whether this was a simple typo, or the book’s copyright trap, has never been ascertained.

Incidentally, I originally had some of the text in this post bolded according to SDMB standards, but preview kept showing a \*\* followed by regular text. More weirdness!
