Well firstly it’s hardly every single time. Indeed wasn’t your original point “Bad leaders do bad things to their people every day in the world”? We sat around impotent during Rwanda, Darfur and, to a large extent, this conflict. We clearly don’t intervene much of the time. That doesn’t make it wrong to intervene this time. And secondly, on the “swing pistol around” thing, I guess your point is that we shouldn’t overreact. And of course, I agree. But I don’t see bombing a base, that as many have pointed out, had been largely abandoned, as a disproportionate response to nerve-gassing a(nother) town. Do you? And yes, it sounds like the cost of this operation was very high, but I don’t know if it was \*unusually \*high, and it’s a separate issue anyway from the ethics. ---

Whatever you may think of Mrs. Trump’s personal morality or lack of engagement with public service in the manner of typical FLOTUSes, the fact that she had a formal dress altered from a length just above the ankle to a length just below the knee is a completely irrelevant and trivial matter. There is nothing inappropriate in such minor stylistic alterations to the First Lady’s wardrobe, and it is not in any way newsworthy except to those of us who enjoy some high-end fashion gossip. If you must complain about Melania Trump, and I don’t particularly care whether you do or not, find something about her that’s actually worth criticizing. Ragging on her completely unremarkable wardrobe modifications, or even just using them as an excuse to call her names, merely makes you sound like those racist misogynists who used to get all pissed off about Michelle Obama wearing a sleeveless dress. ---

I knew the whole vacation thing was fucking insane, but I had no idea he’d actually spent MORE THAN TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT OF HIS FIRST EIGHTY DAYS at Mar-a-Lago. And that doesn’t count the time off he’s taken golfing at his course in New Jersey. The poor guy is going to have to cut back after May, though, because Florida gets so darn hot. Perhaps we should use Federal funding to buy him the old Rockefeller mansion near Acadia National Park, cover everything there in gold, and throw in the Bar Harbor Golf Club. Then he could enjoy himself in comfort during the summer season, too. ---
